Aiken High School is a four-year public high school located in Aiken, South Carolina, United States. Approximately 1,700 students attend the school. It became an International Baccalaureate school in 2003, but as of 2010 is no longer one. Aiken High was ranked in the top 5% of high schools in the nation.

Sports

Aiken High School's mascot is the Hornet. Aiken won the State Football Championship in 1992, making the playoffs for the past consecutive 11 years. Aiken defeated rival school South Aiken for nine consecutive years until the streak ended in 2007. Aiken went on to defeat South Aiken in 2008, 2009, 2010. The school was ranked as high as No. 1 in South Carolina in basketball for the 2006-2007 season.

The swim team was placed 17th overall in the state meet. In 2009, they placed second in regions for the boys team. The boys defeated long-time rival South Aiken many times, and the girls defeated their top racers in individual events. Aiken also had a male swimmer place 1st in three events at the state finals in 2010. The cross country team beat rival South Aiken's team for the first time in seven years in 2010. Aiken High's volleyball team captured the class AAAA State Crown in 2010, defeating Rock Hill in a five-game match.

Academics

Aiken High School has had five seniors since 2004 named Presidential Scholars: Brandon Kearse (2004), Shahin Rothermel (2005), Amy Varallo (2007), Aric Berning (2010), and Steven Kekacs (2012).

Programs at Aiken HS include the academic team, both regular and NJROTC (as of 2007) and the AHS chapter of the National FFA Organization.

Aiken High School houses the internationally ranking Aiken County Robotics team, consisting of the FIRST Robotics Competition team 1102 M'Aiken Magic, and FIRST Tech Challenge Teams Global Force 3864, Atomix 3923 and M'Aiken Tech Magic 1102. For the past four years Aiken County teams have consecutively won the South Carolina State Championships. FIRST Robotics Competition Team M'Aiken Magic in 2007 went out in the semi-finals of the Newton Division at the National Competition, and the winners of the division went on to become the World Champions. In 2010 the FIRST Tech Challenge Team GForce (now known as Global Force) went on to become part of the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Winning Alliance in that year's challenge known as HotShot.

Aiken High School set a school record with more than $9.5 million in scholarship offers to the 2009 graduating class, another record with the Class of 2010, and another with the Class of 2011.

Band

The Aiken High School Marching Band is led by Gregory Ryan Priest and has competed in statewide contests. In 2010 they placed 2nd Overall at the Aynor, South Carolina Blue Jacket Invitational. In 2011 the band placed 3rd overall at the Newberry Lorraine Paris Invitational, and the Color Guard received 1st place, the first in the school's history. The Aiken High School Marching Band has been selected to represent the state of South Carolina in the 2012 Washington, DC Independence day parade.
